Task E Working towards the brochure

To work towards the brochure, I have got to do different methods of collection of getting brochure.
The methods which I used was:
  • Face to face
  • Letter
  • Email
I got most of my brochures by using the face to face method, as this method was more reliable than letter/email.

To support me in my planning I used the following three brochures:
  • New look
  • Butlins
  • Fragrance shop
All of these three brochures were different in many ways.

What did I use out of the brochure?

The techniques which I used out the brochure was watermarks as I like this because it would give a professional affect on the brochure. I also used text orientation, the reason why I used this is because I thought that its different and more eye cacthing depending on the style of font,colour and texture that I use it.

The brochure which I liked the msot was the Butlins one, the reason why I liked this is because the contents page was co-ordinated in colours. This made the brochure more effective than others.

Publication

Using publication was one of my biggest weaknesses.
The reason why it was one of my biggest weaknesses is because I could identify certain techniques such as:
  • Gutters
  • Window
  • Orphan
  • Watermarks
  • Greeking & Latining
  • Repeating elements
Due to this it delayed planning. So in order to make progress I researched these technical techniques. Caylated them as a favourtie on the internet so then this way if I ever need to review it again then I only have to click on the yellow star on top of the internet bar. The url/link will be saved for me to go back on it.
Also I got a book which has most of the technical techniques inside which I used as a revision guide. It was time consuming which means that I wasn't get enough work produced on the brochure research.

Another weakness was Art work sketches, this was because I can't draw.

Suggestments for improvements

For improvements in the future to help me, I would ask a year 12/13 who does art design for some techniques on drawing.

The design stage process

Using the design stage process will benefit me because of the techniques whcih can be used such as:
  • Housestyles
  • Master page layout
  • Proof page, Proofs for reading
  • Using white space
  • Artwork sketches
  • Text orientation
  • Creating style sheets
My actions were affective because I have used the Master page layout technique for my brochure. The reason why I have used this is because it will create a layout to be carried throughout the brochure. This way it will always be repeating and it consistent, instead of taking time up and creating another page each time I need to create another page for the brochure.

Task E Planning the project.

Drafts for contents page

During this period I have had to design 3 initial drafts for the contents page. After I have designed the initial drafts then I have to have a meeting with Mr Chatton to let him decide on which was he prefers most. Whilst I'm in this meeting with Mr Chatton I have to take minutes which could lead to making improvements and anything he has suggested. After I have did both of these tasks I have to then produce the computer draft. This is what is going to be going into the brochure.
Mr Chatton commented on my drafts saying that I have used the technique which is called "Leading" I have used this technique because it makes my contents page look more professional.

Drafts for Page 2- Own page, Welcome page.

Whilst planning for this page, I've had to create a questionnaire. The reason why I have done this is because I'm going to ask people questions about cycling. Then after I have collected the date I am going to produce a graph which shows evidence and percentage of my questionnaire.
My weaknesses throughout this task with the questionnaire was that I didn't give multiple choice on the questionnaire. The only choice I given was yes or no. So I had to improve this because I needed to use multiple choice and some of the questions couldn't be answered without it.

Amendments to the brief

Amendments have been made to the brief,
as there was a blank page that needed to be filled. I have decided to add a
welcome page to the YOU NEED CYCLE brochure. So this has lead to making changes
on where pages are going to be inside the brochure.  Also the deadline has been re-arranged from
December 18th-Febuary 1st. Hopefully all of these
amendments which I have made will be successful with Mr Chatton.

All diary entries up-to-date!
All of my diary entries are now up-to-date, all amendments
have been made.  All of the
informal/formal techniques have been identified. Throughout the weeks my
progress has improved with completing diary entries.

More diary entries have been completed on the tasks that have been produced over christmas.

Grace Academy School!

Due to heating problems Grace Academy
has been shut for two days. Beens as this problem occured it caused a delay on
updating diary entries, so this lead to doing some independent work at home.

Negoitating the brief!

Thursday 21st October


On Tuesday 19th October there was a meeting with Mr Chatton and my group members who are as follows James Collett, Jurgen Hadjini and I.  My team was in dialog with Mr Chatton which was successful. On the agenda there was a range of subjects to choose from on which our group wanted to negotiate with, so as a team we decided to focus on 6-8 images on a page.
Me and my group co-operated with each other well and decided on who would be most suitable for different roles. As they are required skills for different roles.


My performance


During my group meeting we all co-operated well and worked well as a team. I think that personally on my performance it wasn't very effective as I didn't get involved much in the group and also I got easily confused. As an outcome of this as Mr Chatton was asking my questions I didn't understand. So my team member James took over and helped me so this was a positive. As he kept the group going by negotiating with Mr Chatton.  In the future I think that next time when we have a task like this I will make sure that I co-operate with the group. I also didn't have an expected outcome which didn't have a big effect on the group because my role was the negtiator but as I got confused, lost and didn't have a plan this didnt' work to well. James did a lot of work within the group and took the role on last minute as the negotiator. He also had another role aswell as that which was the blogger. I took down notes when James was talking because I thought that if I look back and read them, then this will be helpful. I enjoyed working with my group, I just think that we could of been more prepared and focused than what we was. Looking back at the video it looked like I didn't participate at all, which isn't good because now I will have no evidence of me taking part.


Group performance


At first our group worked really well together, we decided who was doing what role and got on with it. The only problem was within our group was that we all went independant which means that loads of things was going on. So this is where the team members in the group got confused and didn't know what we was talking about. I think that next time my group and I should make sure that the people we have chose for the roles are suitable enough for the role. As myself wasn't ready to be the negotiator and I was the one that should of been most aware in the task, as my role was the main one talking. James worked really well, he was focused with his role and was aware of what he was doing. I think that James should of been the negotiator as the role was more sutiable for him. I think that in the future for me and my group I should particpate more with my group and social alot more to make sure that I know what I am doing. Jurgen didn't do too much observing which his role was an observer. My group and I tried really hard to get the Win-Win with Mr Chatton but he was positive with his decision. We tried compromising with Mr Chatton but his decsion was final.
Feedback for Elliot's Group
I think that Elliot's group did well, as there subject was to discuss the deadline for the brochure. What their group was proposing to Mr Chatton was acceptable. As Elliot said that he thinks the 1st Febuary would be the best time to have the brochure advertised as it would get past chrismas and the January sales. Mr Chatton was adament with having the brochure out before christmas as people would be looking around for Bikes for children for christmas, as they would be idea christmas presents. Also Mr Chatton doesn't want to change the prices of the bicycles so if the brochure was advertised any later in the year then it would mean it going in the January or christmas sales. This would lead to the You Need Cycles company not making a profit. Even though their agenda hasn't be confirmed Mr Chatton has asked Elliot to email their proposition and he will have a think of considering it.

Amending Negotiation skills with Mr Chatton

In todays lesson we watched a clip on Negotiation skills. We had to write down on paper what we identified in the clip. Based on negoation skills, in the video I verified two people at a business meeting.
